MLMCR 5

 Chapter 05

In the carriage, Gu Yanfei lowered her eyes and drank tea gracefully with a faint smile on her naturally curved lips.

Once upon a time, Fang Mingfeng was an internal knot that had troubled her for many years.

She didn’t understand why he liked Gu Yunrong. Why Gu Yunrong?

Since he didn't like her, why didn't he just break off the engagement and instead decided to kill her? Later, he ruined her reputation, making the Gu Family take the initiative to break off the engagement out of shame and the Fang Family occupied the moral high ground.

She had never done anything wrong. The person who was wrong was Fang Mingfeng. Even if the engagement had to be broken off, she should be the one to break it off.

Juan Bi on the side gazed at Gu Yanfei with complicated eyes. Originally, she was worried that Heir Fang would have some misunderstanding between her Miss and Gentleman Chu. Unforeseen, Miss didn't fancy Heir Fang at all.

Miss was so smart and had a sharp eye. It seemed that Heir Fang was gold plated on the outside but a loser on the inside.

Yes, that must be the case!

The carriage slowly passed through the city gate and the whip crackled outside.

Gu Yanfei's hand holding the cup suddenly paused, causing ripples to appear in the tea cup.

She put down the cup as if nothing had happened. But internally, there was a rock oppressing her heart that made her breathless.

This feeling was very familiar...

Gu Yanfei opened a corner of the curtain with her hand and raised her eyes to look out of the carriage.

The setting sun had half set, dyeing the western sky a rouge-like red.

On the other side, the sky in the southeast was extremely dark, with layers of black clouds pressing over the city, as if a storm was about to come and exuded an ominous atmosphere.

Gu Yanfei's other hand hidden in her sleeve quickly calculated...

But as soon as her thumb brushed against two fingers, the feeling of oppression in her heart became more intense and a wave of fishy sweetness appeared in her throat.

She swallowed it back before the blood even spilled over her lips.

She calmly retracted her hand and her pupils hidden under her half-draped eyelashes. Only she knew that her heart was throbbing.

She was already very familiar with this feeling. Once again, she was suppressed by the laws of this small world.

With the foretelling just now, she could only barely predict that there would be a disaster in Danyang City and the people in the city wouldn’t survive!

After passing through the city gate, the carriage began to accelerate gradually.

Gu Yanfei lowered the curtain absentmindedly and got slightly startled when she turned her gaze to Gentleman Chu.

There was a gloomy black air floating between the other party's handsome brows and lingered.

Gu Yanfei's eyes were as dark and unfathomable as a black pool. Her eyes circled around the center of Gentleman Chu's eyebrows.

When they first met, she noticed that there was a faint green and black aura in his glabella. Unexpectedly, after entering the city, this black aura actually became more intense.

In physiognomy, this meant that dark clouds were covering the sky.

"Gentleman Chu, thank you for giving me a ride." Gu Yanfei took out a red brocade bag from her sleeve pocket and put it on the table. "I will give this peace talisman to you."

From the opening of the brocade bag that wasn't completely tightened, one could see a folded beige note stuffed inside.

"..." Gentleman Chu put his right fist to his lips, chuckled, and relaxed.

"Hua'an Street is here!"

Xiao Shi's bright voice came from outside and the carriage stopped smoothly outside a manor.

Juan Bi took the lead to step out of the carriage. Her originally pale and gloomy face instantly lit up, feeling completely at ease.

Xiao Shi looked at Gu Yanfei with a strange expression, feeling that this beautiful miss was strange. She actually gave their young master a peace talisman. Did she think it was because of this peace talisman that she survived the cliff fall?

Gu Yanfei was about to get off the carriage when she saw Gentleman Chu suddenly take off the short sword from his waist and handed it to her.

"Rebating this sword to Miss." He steadily stared at Gu Yanfei, with a hint of interest in his smiling eyes.

Gu Yanfei was stunned, knowing that the other party had misunderstood. Still, she accepted it gracefully.

This sword was quite handy. Gu Yanfei pulled out the sword two inches with satisfaction, put it back into the scabbard, and kindly advised the other party: "Danyang City hasn’t been peaceful recently. If nothing happens, Young Master, it’s best to leave as soon as possible."

"Let's just say goodbye."

Gu Yanfei held the scabbard of the sword and bidded goodbye to Gentleman Chu with a smile.

Young Master Chu raised his long, graceful eyebrows. His eyes flashed faintly and he nodded, "Noted."

Gu Yanfei smiled slightly, knowing that the other party wouldn’t heed to the advice. He probably had another purpose in coming to Danyang City. If he didn’t achieve his purpose, he wouldn’t leave.

She gave him this peace talisman just as a way of repaying some cause and effect.

Thinking about it, Gu Yanfei subconsciously rubbed the scabbard in her hand with her fingertips.

When she saw Gentleman Chu's sword for the first time, she remembered it.

She had seen this sword before.

In her previous life, after she was rescued from the bottom of a cliff, she spent most of her time in a coma. She only woke up once in a carriage and vaguely saw her savior.

At that time, she didn’t see the other party's face, but only vaguely saw his sword.

She was certain that it was this sword.

In other words, it was probably this Gentleman Chu who saved her in her previous life and sent her back to Danyang City safely.

Gu Yanfei sighed secretly and got out of the carriage with the support of Juan Bi’s hand. The taste of blood in her mouth hadn’t dissipated and her throat was burning.

Only Gentleman Chu was alone in the carriage again. There was still the unfinished chess game. The densely packed black and white chess pieces divided the world equally on the chessboard.

"Miss Gu, we’ll meet if we’re destined to."

Xiao Shi waved goodbye to Gu Yanfei and their blue-covered carriage sped along the broad street and soon disappeared into the deep dusk.

The sound of horse hooves faded away and the empty street became silent. There were no passers-by nearby.

Gu Yanfei silently stood and raised her eyes to take in the dim sky.

The clouds in the sky became thicker and heavy, as if they were about to fall.

"Tuk-tuk-tuk..."

Juan Bi raised her hand and knocked on the corner door of the Manor, shouting to the doorkeeper inside the door: "Old Litou!"

After a while, there was a squeak. The corner door opened, revealing only an inch-long crack. The old, sallow face of the doorkeeper, Old Litou, appeared behind the door.

The door paused. There was a hint of gloating Old Litou's cloudy eyes. He glanced at Juan Bi and Gu Yanfei behind her, uttering in a strange tone: "Oh, the Second Miss is back!"

"Old Woman Zhang, hurry up and tell Attendant Xu." Old Litou turned around and called to the old woman to pass on the message.

Seeing that the door was only open a crack, Juan Bi frowned and urged: "Old Litou, open the door quickly!"

Old Litor pressed his head firmly against the door, sighed with a smile on his face, and didn’t answer the question: "Attendant Xu said, it's improper for girls to leave early and come home late. If the Second Miss doesn't return home before the sun goes down, you aren’t allowed to enter.”

When Juan Bi heard this, her eyes widened in disbelief.

She and Miss have been living here for three months and they were usually ignored by these servants who were accustomed to welcome the superiors and scorn inferiors. Surprisingly, they would go so far as to not let them in today!

Juan Bi was so furious that her round face turned red, but the situation overpowered people. If Old Litou refused to open the door, there was nothing they could do.

She explained patiently: "Old Litou, something happened on our way back to the city from Daxing Temple. The carriage fell off a cliff..."

"Juan Bi, step back."

As Gu Yanfei's calm and soft female voice sounded, Juan Bi obediently took two steps back.

  "Whoosh!"

Gu Yanfei quickly pulled out the dagger from the sheath. The narrow blade shone with a cold light and hummed in the setting sun.

Gu Yanfei struck out with her sword without hesitation.

Her movements were light and deft, like a flower stand. However, the sword blade split open the door panel easily, splitting the thick door panel in two like cutting tofu.

Half of the split door leaf tilted backwards and fell to the ground with a bang, leaving only the other half of the door leaf still hanging on the door shaft.
