ReplyDeleteIt's nice for LQH to confess the truth to ZQB. Even though some readers pointed out ZQB as someone who didn't deserve LQH, I don't think so. ZQB is great and considerate to LQH and his children, it's just he didn't know to express himself well
ReplyDeleteGotta agree with you here. He's actually patient and considerate, considering that there's a _lot_ of question marks and oddities that came up about his wife after he retired. A less patient man would've snapped earlier.
DeleteHe's also understanding of her wish to buy and sell in the black market. He had reservations about it, sure, but he didn't try to stop her other than making her promise that if she ever slipped/get caught, she'd stop. And this is in an era where beating a misbehaving wife can be considered as average behaviour.
He didn't even feel threatened with his wife now earning a lot, and possibly even more in the future if she actually manages to get into the university and get a degree in a time when it was rare. He might be quiet, introspective and without grand ambitions except to raise his family, but his attitude and personality is actually not that common for a man of that era.

At least for me, I would want us to be able to be honest with each other so we can share our worries & thoughts. COMMUNICATION is the key after all.
Its easy for us modern people to say that, because our partners were raised in a very similar mindset. Our world views and our attitudes are very similar. In contrast, not only does MC have the generational gap problem of being a transmigrator, she also has significant future knowledge that is difficult to explain.

I know that euphemisms like ‘getting moisturized’ or ‘eat wife’s meat’ are either lost in cultural contextual translation or meant to sound less R-rated than outrightly saying sex but my goodness, it sounds way more explicit to me. Because now I'm wondering, moisturized by what? Semen? And I'm also explicitly imagining MC spread eagle and being literally eaten.
