Why would he care about her family? He knows the original is gone so the current wife has no connection to these 'people'. She says don't go but he still goes and inadvertently helps get him out. What is the point?

This may be his last act of kindness, in acknowledge of his previous affections and connections.
If he didn't do something, I would doubt his character and morals. After all...they were married and she bore his sons.

DeleteZQB didn't help and he didn't even have intention to help Second brother Lin. He just went there to inquire some news to calm his in-law's family down (as a way to save his wife's and his sons' reputation, just like @litokid said). The red army can't prove them guilty, so they'd just wasting their energy and time to torture Second brother Lin and the widow more if ZQB didn't come. Either way, the red army intended to set them free and they've been tortured enough. ZQB's arrival in the county city just cut them some jail time and over-the-top punishment. So, overall, ZQB has kept his own moral and integrity.

Lol. I’ve seen DaBoss on at least 3 CN period novels now. In My Amazing Cannon Fodder Husband, s/he despised the ML for being sickly and “shamelessly” relying on FL’s care in the first few chapters. The main leads there were both not the ambitious type and the FL even wanted to serve as a diplomat for the country even though she had a magical space with healing spring water and she was also good in business so Da Boss despised their “indoctrinated” and “brainwashed” mentalities.
DeleteIn Parvenu’s Ex-wife, Da Boss was never able to get over the age gap between the main leads. FL was a 30-year old transmigrator in a 25-year old body divorced with two kids while ML was a 35-year old veteran. They were both mature in body and mind but Da Boss always comments in almost every chapter how weird it was. All the other readers wanted to reason with him. Everyone had different opinions but they were all in agreement that as long as both were legally and scientifically (swear, others were bringing in scientific basis of brain and body maturity just to provide Da Boss counter argument not to be so prejudiced) mature, then it was fine to enter into a relationship. Others were citing examples of people they know in real life with equal or even larger age gaps, and how they’re in a happy and healthy relationship, but Da Boss would also find it weird when people say “you do you, and we do us” and that some people are okay with this. When others say it’s fine between 25 and 35 but not between 17-18 and 22 just to emphasize on age of maturity and they were now discussing pedophilia and minors’ protection against grooming and predation, Da Boss found it weirder and said that since it’s not fine for 15 and 25 then it should also not be fine for 25 and 35.
Here, in early chapters when ML didn’t yet know that FL had transmigrated and he thought his wife was still his wife but even better with more mature mindset, and he wanted to get close and be more intimate, Da Boss said he was rapey and creepy even when there was no indication at all that ML tried to force her against her will. He was just honestly confused since his wife with whom he already had three children with would not let him be intimate with her anymore. And you know the rest of Da Boss’ resentment against ML, FL, San Wa, and every other character here.
Honestly, when there is something that I think might tempt Da Boss to comment, I just click next right away to not hurt my eyes or sometimes, like right now, I purposely find Da Boss’ name in the comments not to read his, of course, but to read what others’ response to the Da Boss are. 😂✌️
