ReplyDeleteNot that he's better. Does he love her or her belly is spot on. Such a big decision she decided on her own but he also decided to retire instead of that desk job they were going to offer. I wonder how much that pays vs being a village farmer? Did he choose pride over providing the best for his family?
I totally agree with you.. I really like her attitude but her arguments are a bit off... Rather than "what's done is done, why are you still mad", it would have been much better if she engraved it within him on how tolling to the body it is being pregnant. On all 3 previous times, he was not beside her when she was experiencing the difficulty. Now he is back and wants to "see" the difficulty when she no longer wants to.

I don't know about love, but I think she really does like him, and romantically at that. First, she does find him attractive, she likes that he's responsible (and hands her the purse strings, heh). She might be reluctant to have too much sex because it tires her the next day, but she's not reluctant about the sex itself in the first place. Even that bit is something I'm chalking up to the traditional outlook in c-novels that a woman can't be too obviously interested in sex (Madonna-whore dichotomy strikes again, I guess). So yeah, that one's pretty solid.
DeleteOn the other hand, he's still a product of his era. Women have been getting pregnant and giving birth through the ages, his education is also just so-so like almost everyone in the village. He probably had never thought that there was anything unusual about women getting pregnant and popping 4-8 kids.
I can actually accept the misunderstanding, though, as it's still plausibly in-character for her. She might be getting too comfortable with him and his thoughtfulness in their daily life that she's treating him as a modern guy in this case--that is, she thought it should've been obvious how much risk she's taking every time she gets pregnant and what a heavy burden it is on her body.
After this long chapters, we've known that ZQB isn't the type who can sit still doing desk work. He not only prefer physical works, he simply has too much energy in himself that he can't sit still. He also didn't have eloquence which is needed in bureaucracy career. It's not necessarily about his pride, but more about chosing which job he could do better while not being a drag/burden for other people.

ReplyDeleteShe wasn't the one who got the tubes tied and didn't even know about it for months after arriving... but she's got to take responsibility for it anyway. She feels no guilt because she wasn't in the wrong, but she still has to apologize and appease others. That's just frustrating!
He was lied to about something important from someone he trusted. If this surgery had been done for health reasons, I think he could have understood. But this was a big decision done without getting his input and then made a fool of because she lied about it for so long.
If she's at fault for anything, it's for not being sincere enough in her apology. What she said was TECHNICALLY true, but was so heartless it's clear she's not actually sorry. Of course he's mad! I'd be mad too! Her coaxing skills are horrible, lol.
But, and this is the thing, it's inline with her personality to be this way. If she really truly thought she'd done something wrong, the apology would have been way more heartfelt. But since she's not sorry and it's not her fault, she's already doing a lot of conceding by apologizing this much.
For those above who question whether she loves him, I think she does love him. But consider the time period. She makes everything from scratch and he's doing manual labor. Try raising 3 kids without machines to do all the washing for you and see when you have the time to be lovely-dovey. They live in a place where HOLDING HANDS could get them SENT TO JAIL. Try going on a date when you can't stand too close together and have to carry a marriage license so the police don't arrest you and see how romantic it is! It's not right? Even if you love someone, it'd be hard to show it.
And, to top it all off, he's got the EQ of a rock. He only knows how to show affection in a very traditional way: provision and sex. Beyond that he's absolutely clueless lol

Thanks for the chapter. I am not sure if she knows the meaning of love because part of that is compromise, and that is not really her thing. She is more calculating as her temperament. She loves her life right now, a life given to her by the body's original owner and the writer of the novel; but as usual she is petty about what is her fault instead of fighting for her family. This can also go back with to her mother in law incident, based on her previous behavior, but since it was not her she took offense and punished her mother in law.
ReplyDeleteMFC has a choice, accept this life with all the baggage good/bad that comes with it or make a clean break with them if she can't. Also, someone mentioned she should play up the harshness of pregnancy, since she has never experienced I think it would be hard for her to passionately argue it, and it would come across flat. What she needs to do is to give Husband time and space, because if he does leave her and takes the kids how can she survive in this life. She has plans but they take years to realize.

ReplyDeleteAlmost forgot, thanks for translating this for us. It's one of the few novels that, even with the MC's cheat/golden finger (extradimensional storage in Lin Qing He's case), the MC is still not overpowered because of it and the story still continues in a somewhat realistic way.
ReplyDeleteI also love the people's characterisation here. Her in-laws just want the best for their youngest son, but they're not automatically meddling and domineering in his household either though they're sometimes swayed by other people. The people in the story have their positive character traits as well as flaws just like normal people do, and in that way made the stumbling, misunderstandings and arguments they have much more believable and not just done for drama (looking at you, pure revenge-driven or dogblood-driven stories).
Basically, take all my likes ;)
Hey also agree with you on her golden finger. That's true initially I was turned off by this space because I read a previous novel that had a storage full of medicine that was infinite *rolls eyes* hahaha but this is just like a big backpack

ReplyDeleteIt is a small issue. He's in the wrong here honestly. He can feel frustrated or angry by the truth but in no way should she feel sorry over a decision made by the original host based on her circumstances.

I really don't care if mc didn't personally do the ligation. But she led him on for months until he had self doubt. Didn't confess until they had already travelled to the capital for a hospital check up. It's really not fair how she doesn't let him process and show his emotions which are very valid.
