Chapter 87. Chen Shan the scum

Lin Qing He gave no response, but her mind muttered, 'how am I making Zhou Qing Bai ill at ease?'
But she didn't give much explanation. After all, there was a generation gap, and some things cannot be communicated.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the chapter. While I can respect her, I actually think she is being stupid and petty with Mother Zhou. Mother Zhou has lived with the original owner of the body for 6 or 7 years. And it's has only been a year since she took over, and while the Original was disgusting and spent money like water we all saw how she was lead astray. The new her comes with a storage space full or supplies and exotic stuff to supplement her lifestyle. Plus mother sees her son working hard to point of looking like he is going to fall over. So mother's words are based on her knowledge of the original and not her. It will take time for them to see the difference and change. I wonder if She believed San Wa wife was craping on him, and taking advantage would she be quite and let it happen?
ReplyDeleteI think she should actually be the opposite. After seeing what she was like for those 6-7 years, she is now taking care of the husband and children. Her spending is the same, or a little less, but you can see the positive impact it has on her family. She has also been more generous with the whole family. Why is it that by being more loving and complaining less, the mother now finds more faults? If you compare the original and the new her, you can see the difference is much more positive, so why complain all the time?

The grandmother doesn't give a flying shart about our FL honestly, her subconscious mind shows that all she cares about are the grankids and her son. She minds whenever FL might get something for herself. She's overstepped so many times and has been so rude in her actions (how dare you continuously muddle in my family's business.... You really don't have anything to do! And then to go speaking to my husband behind my back despite knowing that he's fine with mt decisions simply bcs you want him to listen to you and speak to me about things that DONT CONCERN YOU??) LMFAO i would've been and would've ended up rebuking thw mother several times because she is nosy as hell and way to self-righteous. And imagine she can't take an inch of that kind of behaviour and educate the second sister in law. Birds of a feather flock together. Deep down she must feel some way about the FL being everything tjat she isn't.

ReplyDeleteIt's definitely a generation gap thing. Coming from the same era, I don't think she was being excessive. There's only too much a MIL can say on running a household. Giving filial pity in itself was easy, having them manage your own family was them butting in too much. But for female at that era, what she's doing might seem being idiotically prideful. As explained in the previous chapters, people tend to like having a big family. In that way, they won't be bullied and most problem were solved by calling your whole town of relatives. What MC was doing coulf lead to their family being isolated. This is were my liking towards the three brothers comes in. They treated the fourth family as still an extension of the family and giving a hand came in as natural for their brothers. Still, they know what it means by their household being separated. They thank their fourth sister-in-law for the things she gave out but didn't demand it as if it's a matter of fact.

On one hand, of course I think it is super annoying that Mother Zhou keeps butting in but on the other hand, she is just worried at how hard her son is working to provide for the family. It can't be easy for her to see her son working so hard and hearing that he is also "providing for" her daughter-in-law's family.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the female lead has the right to do what she wants and what she doesn't want. The mother in law shouldn't meddle into family business even with good intentions. It's a generational thing but I felt she was over the line I would be have the same attitude as well. Loll there should be boundaries between people just because you are family doesn't mean you can overstep boundaries that someone has made. Plus the mother in law doesn't even care about female lead lol and her relationships with her maternal family.

I've always loved characters that say "screw the power of the plot, my destiny is in my own hands!" They're the coolest.
ReplyDeleteJust a little side note, but I love the ML, too. He's never manipulated her, coerced her (if she truly says no and he can't convince her, he doesn't force it), pushed his own agendas on her, or have her conform to him and his values. He's honestly top 3 so far of all the Chinese novels I've read. Maybe #1, but there are still a lot of chapters and I want to see how they handle bigger conflict with each other if it comes up.
It's a really good discussion of daughter-in-law vs. mother-in-law. It's true what the MC said before about terrible people being praised for the tiniest bit of good thing they do while good people are immediately put down for the tiniest wrong/leniency they take. Before when she was still bad, Mother Zhou would never have dreamed of interfering with how MC does things. Now that she's showing some filial piety, Mother Zhou dares to seek out her son about their household matters. If MC doesn't maker her boundaries clear in a meaningful way, she will have to deal with that for the rest of her life. It's better to do something about it now, even if it seems excessive to other people. MC is the one who has to deal with the consequences, not them, so she should do it according to what will let her live her most unbothered life regardless of what they say. Remember, she even cut off her maternal family, let alone Mother Zhou? But MC is smart, she knows Mother Zhou values her youngest son, so she can play these cards in her hands. She wouldn't do this if there was a true loss for her, no matter what Mother Zhou does, MC wins.
