Chapter 135. Evaluation
Outsiders didn't know why her youngest son and his wife went out for this time, but Mother Zhou clearly did.
So in private, Mother Zhou asked.

The two big ones were fine, they can sleep by themselves.
Last year, Da Wa found out that his parents weren't sleeping in the middle of the night and were fighting. That shouldn't happen for the second time.
San Wa was ecstatic that he was able to sleep with his parents. After lying on the Kang for a while, the little one drowsed off.
When Zhou Qing Bai came in from outside, he saw that his wife and his youngest son were already asleep.
Zhou Qing Bai took off his clothes and went to sleep on the Kang.

Lin Qing He whispered: "My maternal family's ties have been severed by me. I just got you and the children left. I have nothing but you."
"We'll protect you." Zhou Qing Bai hugged her and responded.
Lin Qing He grinned. She was indeed tired. She let Zhou Qing Bai grabbed the clothes and put them on for her. Then she fell asleep.
Zhou Qing Bai was also very satisfied with his arms around his wife.
Divorce, impossible. Not happening in this life.
As expected, Lin Qing He woke up late the next morning.
When she woke up, Zhou Qing Bai was already fed along with the three boys.
Father Zhou and Mother Zhou had also eaten.
They ate boiled sweet potatoes with porridge soup and a plate of fried pork and cucumber.

Lin Qing He came into agreement with her and then she came to the community's supply and demand cooperative to look around. She bought two jins of eggs and other supplies, and then went home.
She had checked before going out. Half of the eggs she left behind remained. That was due to Mother Zhou's lifestyle. Now she was back, the eggs at home will be depleted quickly.
Lin Qing He rode her bicycle back home and Zhou Qing Bai had yet to return.
"Where did your father go?" Lin Qing He asked Er Wa and San Wa who were playing at the entrance.
"Father took the tractor and went to the city with Grandpa secretary." Er Wa knew the answer and replied.
"Why go to the city?" Lin Qing He was surprised.
"I don't know, ask Father when he comes back." Er Wa shook his head.
"Mother, are there any delicious pastries?" San Wa still had his mind on this.
Lin Qing He went in and grabbed him a piece. Seeing that he had it, Er Wa immediately said that he wanted it too.
Each were given one and dismissed. Lin Qing He started cooking.
The main was mantou.
After wandering around for a while, she had an explanation for the meat that she got out of the space. It wasn't much. A cut of three liang (150g) of meat was chopped into mince and braised with eggplant.
With the addition of a scrambled egg, lunch was mostly sorted.
However, Zhou Qing Bai wasn't back for lunch. He didn't come back until the evening. Judging by the village's branch secretary and the leader's glowing face, it seemed like her Qing Bai had done a meritorious service?
When the village's branch secretary left, Lin Qing He asked, "What did you guys do today? The branch secretary and the leader seemed very happy. What honor did the team get?"
The only thing that can make the village's branch secretary and the leade so happy was most likely one possibility.

I don't get why people are upset with the MC. Keep in mind the MC is a modern independent woman. It is already amazing enough that she is willing to settle down with a poor man, raise three children, and be an obedient housewife for the family. The ML forcing the MC to have another child and be a baby-making machine has been getting on my nerve , so I actually hope the MC can continue to be headstrong and not bow down to the 70s/80s feudalistic ideas.

I totally agree with you. Everyone seems to forget that while MC knows ML is a backdated male, ML doesn't know that MC is a modern independent women. Despite not knowing that, he is allowing her a lot of ground, which is very rare in that age. MC is really too lucky to get a man like ML and have such understanding MIl and FIL. Their thoughts are much advanced than people of their times, that is why MC is rather having an easy time. She is so self absorbed that she forgot which age they are from and they are not simply used to her modern outlook.

Well, you're taking into account that the MC is a modern woman, but completelty disregarding that the ML is a backdated man. Even a lot of his actions, such as doing the dishes and doing house chores at home, is considered out of the ordinary in this time and age. He is being lenient and even slightly less conservative compared to the man of this age. In their timeline, do you know how blessed someone was to have more children?

ReplyDeleteYou have to be cold-blooded and emotionless for not starting to love and care about a family that is so kind, fun, considering and lovely to you. She still has her believes but just loves her family so she compromises on some things (like EVERY couple/family does and HAVE to do to work). I would rather hate her if she stayed cold-hearted and only looked at her own interest. Because that means she's a selfish and irresponsible person who only looks at her own benefits and doesn't care/give back when other people do a lot for her and care about her

ReplyDeleteSo far it's realistic and finding husband like ML at that time is lucky (FL doesn't need to work and even he accepted that she can't give birth anymore) His reaction of him getting angry is also reasonable while the original FL getting ligation is also reasonable too but she should tell her husband and explains the reason.
Exactly. I think people are just being nasty with belittling FL for being soft/weak due to love & inserting modern values in judging both characters. As if this story is about year 2020 life when it's literally 70s in the title?

DeleteBoth sides have their own way of thinking and doing things and we, as readers, should be able to understand that this difference is because both of them grew up in two completely different times...
That doesn't mean both sides are wrong or both sides are right...and the fact that they both each have their flaws (fl: apparently insensitive?) Or Ml (a mute?) is much more realistic than if they were perfect ppl or a perfect couple who never argued..
