ReplyDeleteAt least they don’t get put inside pig cages and drowned in rivers anymore (in feudalistic China, adulterous women get punished as such while men not really since it’s legally okay for men to have multiple women then). Now, when they were caught, both Wang Ling and the man she was caught with was treated the same. You could say those Red Soldiers really observed gender equality. As for the other men afterwards, if their own families were brave enough to report, I’m sure they’d be punished equally too but then everyone else in their family will suffer along with them. So it’s probably not that Wang Ling got the short end of the stick. The parading every few weeks was a sequelae from the affair that was reported and Zhou He also got the same treatment. The other men were not punished not because they were favored over Wang Ling, a woman, but probably because their own families couldn’t afford it.
