ATCOTB 1

Chapter 1

“Beep—Patient has no vital signs, confirmed dead.”

“Wish Department System No. 57 is about to serve you. Loading original owner's data, 30%, 40%... 40%... 40%... Loading failed.”

“System program error, entering hibernation mode in three seconds. Please prepare, host.”

“Three, two, one, beep—”

The sound of the electrocardiogram monitor announcing the end of life gradually merged with the sharp, piercing mechanical sound.

Yun Chuman suddenly regained consciousness and awareness amidst the two sounds.

Her limbs, which had been like waterlogged cotton for years, became light and strong.

Her breathing, as heavy as a broken bellows, became light and free.

All of this meant that her body was now filled with unprecedented vitality.

What was going on? Wasn't she already dead?

Yun Chuman opened her eyes in confusion, just in time to meet a beam of light. She slightly turned her head and glanced at the gray sofa and light blue wallpaper beside her.

Not seeing the white that had always accompanied her, Yun Chuman realized she was in an unfamiliar house.

"I...I didn't mean to..."

A childish voice suddenly rang out. The slight tremor revealed the owner's unease.

Who was speaking?

Yun Chuman keenly caught the murmur and turned her head to see two blurry figures.

She squinted. After her eyes adjusted to the light, she finally made out the figures.

Two children, about four or five years old.

The one in front was a little boy.

His tightly furrowed brows and prominent nose gave him a hint of heroism even at such a young age.

However, his chubby face, his downturned puppy-dog eyes, and the rounded curve of his belly from his overalls were a real letdown. Even with a wary and serious expression, he looked like a harmless little lion cub that could only howl.

Behind him stood a slightly shorter little girl, wearing a bunny onesie. Her tiny hands gripping the little boy's sleeves tightly.

She looked terrified, her head bowed and shoulders hunched, her long, soft hair obscuring her face, only a sliver of her chubby cheek visible through the strands. Her trembling appearance was exactly like that of a pitiful yet adorable little white rabbit.

Yun Chuman stared blankly at the two human cubs not far away.

In the instant her vision returned, a flood of information surged into her mind.

For example, this world was a novel, and the original owner of this body, sharing the same name as Yun Chuman, was cannon fodder and would eventually be sent to a mental hospital.

For example, the two children before her were twins; the elder brother named Yun Juan and the sister Yun Shu. Both are the original owner’s children.

For example, this very moment marked the beginning of the original owner's journey to becoming cannon fodder.

With a struggle, Yun Chuman processed the fact that she had transmigrated into a book after death and quickly extracted information from the current situation.

The original owner of this body and her two children were filming the pilot episode of the family live-stream variety show "Every Family Has Its Own Affairs."

This variety show was a big-budget production by Orange Entertainment.

The original owner, a virtually unknown actress, originally had no chance to participate.

However, her youngest son, Yun Juan, unexpectedly gained some online popularity with a role, and was thus invited by the production team. As the mother, the original owner became one of the guests.

For some unknown reason, the original owner didn't want her youngest daughter, Yun Shu, to appear on camera, so during the filming of the pilot episode, she hid her in a closet.

Shortly after filming began, Yun Shu, needing to use the restroom after drinking too much water, secretly emerged from the closet and was caught on camera.

On the live stream, the original owner insisted that Yun Shu was a friend's child. Afterwards, outdoor locations were chosen for every episode's filming and she locked Yun Shu alone at home.

After this incident was exposed, it became the catalyst for the original owner's online scrutiny and one scandal after another was being unearthed.

Yun Chuman gasped. Thankfully, she was lucky to have transmigrated before the original owner denied Yun Shu's identity.

However, unbeknownst to her, the prolonged silent staring between the two children had already alerted some viewers to something amiss.

—"I came from the live stream from the other channel to see my new son. Can anyone tell me what's going on? Where's the adorable, cheerful kid I was promised?"

—"A little girl suddenly ran out and Juanjuan's mom seemed angry, staring at the two children without saying a word."

—"Ugh, so suffocating! Am I the only one who thinks Juanjuan's mom is particularly fierce?"

—"I'm putting myself in Juanjuan's shoes, it's scary."

—"Who's the little girl? She looks so cute, but unfortunately she keeps her head down so I can't see her face."

—"To be honest, the way Juanjuan protects the little girl gives security! I actually see a sense of security in a child!"

Yun Chuman tried to calm herself, quickly considering ways to avoid becoming cannon fodder. She ultimately came to only one conclusion: to admit on camera that Yun Shu was a member of the family.

The room was riddled with cameras. Although she hadn't watched similar variety shows, she understood the concept of live streaming. Lying in front of everyone wasn't just an insult to the audience, but also a blow to Yun Shu.

Yun Chuman's gaze fell on the two children. She didn't want to leave them alone in a room or closet. No one understood better than her the torment and pain of being confined in a closed space.

She adjusted the angle of her smile, revealing a perfect one.

This was the result of countless hours of practice in front of the mirror in her past life—absolutely perfect in both sweetness and approachability!

Yun Chuman looked confidently at the two children, her eyes gentle.

Just as she was about to strike up a conversation, she noticed Yun Juan, who had been observing her, had his pupils dilated slightly, his little nose wrinkled, and his eyes became even more wary, like a little lion with its fur standing on end, growling menacingly.

Yun Chu Man, with her perfect sweetness and approachability: ...

Yun Juan stretched out his short, chubby arm and pulled Yun Shu behind him again.

The movement was small, but the effect was significant; Yun Chu Man almost couldn't keep her composure.

In her past life, she relied on this smile to make even socially awkward people talk to her, let alone innocent children. If it weren't for her poor health, she would be the queen of the children!

This was the first time someone had shown wariness towards her smile.

It was okay, it was okay.

Perhaps it was because the original owner's face was different from hers that the smile didn't have the desired effect.

Yun Chu Man comforted herself, took a deep breath, and tentatively approached the two children again.

However, perhaps because she had been confined to a wheelchair in her past life, her feet felt incredibly slippery and uncontrollable, as if they were coated in oil despite her legs being healthy and strong.

Yun Chuman had only taken two steps when she tripped.

Her eyes widened in horror as she tried with all her might to steady herself, but she couldn't tame her legs.

Her left foot tripped over her right, and she watched helplessly as the floor drew closer and closer.

A loud thud sounded.

Yun Chuman's cheek made intimate contact with the cold floor. The impact sent a jolt of numbness through her, followed by pain that spread from the tip of her nose to her entire face, finally burning her.

She lay sprawled on the ground, unable to believe that she had just performed a spectacular fall right in front of the live stream cameras and two children!

Yun Chuman was mortified. Her whole body tense and her ears flushed red. Couldn't she just change a book to live in?!

The two children cautiously approached her. Their slow steps filled with uncertainty.

Yun Chuman lay motionless on the ground, feigning death, unwilling to face such an embarrassing reality.

As the footsteps faded, she felt a slight, quick push on her shoulder.

"Elder Brother, why is Mom lying on the ground?"

Yun Shu's voice was distant. Her pronunciation was slightly unclear, but it sounded soft and sweet.

Yun Chuman almost jumped for joy upon hearing her call her "Mom." The live stream camera must have caught it! Did this indirectly reveal Yun Shu's identity?

"She might have fainted from the fall. I'll go call Uncle Police."

Yun Juan's voice was childish but calm, revealing a maturity beyond his years.

Based on the location of the voice, Yun Chuman knew he was nearby.

Sensing Yun Juan was about to leave, she quickly raised her hand and accurately grabbed the other's wrist.

It was thin and soft, as if the slightest touch would cause injury.

Yun Chuman didn't dare use force, but even so, her fingers still sank into the chubby little flesh of the children.

She mumbled, "At this time, you should find an Elder Sister Nurse."

Yun Juan was startled; his little body trembled violently, and his round belly swayed slightly.

Yun Shu covered her mouth with both hands to keep from yelling out.

Yun Chuman had just thought it through clearly: risking her social death for a chance to be close to the two children. It was worth it!

She slowly raised her head, smiling as gently as possible, "Xiao Juan, Xiao Shu, Mom... Mom's fine. I'm sorry to have made you worried."

She pursed her lips after speaking, feeling a little embarrassed about calling herself "Mom."

Yun Shu, who was huddled on the ground in the distance, tried to look up upon hearing this, but then quickly looked down again as if remembering something.

Yun Juan stared unblinkingly at Yun Chuman. His already large eyes widened and his eyelids twitched a few times.

Yun Chuman felt a pang of panic under his gaze. Had she said something wrong?

She blinked in confusion, tentatively asking, "Why aren't you saying anything? Scared you?"

Yun Juan sighed heavily, "Mommy, you're bleeding from your nose..."

"Huh?"

Yun Chuman subconsciously touched her nose, feeling warm liquid.

She stared blankly at her fingers, slender and white, making the bright red blood stand out even more.

Yun Chuman gave a dry laugh. Her mind was going blank.

Based on a habit she'd developed in her past life, she instinctively denied it, "Haha, no, it's not a nosebleed, little Juan, you're mistaken. Mommy doesn't have nosebleeds."

Yun Juan's little brows furrowed. He opened her mouth to speak, but then saw Yun Chuman's eyes roll back and she slumped back onto the floor with a thud.

Sorry, she was squeamish about blood, just like in her past life.

The live stream chat went blank for a moment upon seeing this scene, then burst into a dense barrage of comments.

—Sorry, I take back what I said about Juanjuan's mom being fierce; I didn't expect her to be such a funny beauty.

—Hahaha, my strong-willed mom! What nosebleed? It's clearly ketchup!

—Juanjuan's mom's name seems to be Yun Chuman. That video of early humans taming legs was amazing!

—My tendency to feel embarrassed on behalf of another has kicked in again!

—Is the little girl the sister? Yun Juan,Yun Shu? That's a bit strange, but it sounds kind of nice, haha.

—People, stop laughing! The only adult in the house has fainted. What should we do now…?

Yun Chuman: Please, let me live in a different book!
